Surf fishing at Seven Mile Beach

Surf fishing

Location: Seven Mile Beach Date/Time: (1 Oct 2015) 2015-10-01 15:50 Duration: 6 hours Status: Created

Today I finished work a little early and decided to see if i can catch some dinner, so (with Lucky) I jumped in the car and went to lake conjola. Two lines had been in for over an hour and not even a bite, Tide was on its way out, and wouldn't turn for another 3 hours, In the distance i could see the surf break and it looked like the heads had opened up (due to the recent flooding of the area), thats when the thought of walking to the distant horizon popped into my head, so we went walk about. I didn't realise i would need to be bashing through the mangroves to get to the point which i saw from the distance, that was all good, except being aware about the return journey as i had just realised i had left my beam torch on my bike, but i didn't anticipate how difficult it would actually be.

Finally I arrived at Paradise! it was just awesome . I rigged up and casted out, and within moments  I could feel there was something on the end of the rod, but it wasn't striking, just a slow pull similar to the wave motion on the line which can sometimes be deceiving, after about 1/2 hour i wiinded in my line to find the hook was missing, repeatedly I found myself losing hook after hook without even a strike.  I think it may have been leatherjackets because they have rasor sharp teeth. Upon the final attempt, I threaded the line and hook using a long shank, at this point, I had been using my phone to light up so i can thread, however that soon died, so i packed up and headed for the light which looked to be miles away in the distance.  the return took hours of trial and error bashing through the mangroves in the dark Lucky (my parrot)  tucked himself into my clothes and was holding digging his claws into my chest, round and round trying back and forth tripping over branches and rugged tarrain, trying to locate atleast some sort of trail which could lead me back to the car park, The stars gave me enough vision to identify patches of sand, everything else was black.  At one point, I think all lake residents whould have heard my scream which was triggered by a series of events that occured moments after i heard trots in the distance and while walking in the sand which gradually became softer then into mud to the sound of thousands of crabs makeing a clicking sound. The whole experience was petrifying, the temperature was cool, but my body was sweating.

On this photo I had fallen on to my back while running backwards - kept the camera on focus though it had an interesting effect. "

I spotted at least ten box jelly fish. If you are swimming in a lake or sea, be aware and keep your eye out, box jellyfish can lead to fatality.
