Townsville Marlins Swimming Club is a family orientated club that caters for children of all ages and levels of swimming ability. We are at the Castle Hill PCYC, Harold Phillips Park, Corner Hugh and Harold Streets, Belgian Gardens.
Swim Squads
Marlins Swimming Club has qualified swim coaches with a passion for coaching swimmers. They are accredited through ASCTA and hold a Working With Children Card.
Marlins Swimming Club welcomes all new swimmers with a passion for the sport.
Junior Squads
Swimming all strokes over 200m, normally covering 2 - 2.5 km in an hour session.
Senior Squad
Swimming up to 10 sessions per week, covering all strokes varied from "Endurance to Sprint" training. The aim of which is to make State and/or National competitions.
Adult Fitness
All levels of swimming and fitness. Young to mature adult swimmers, Triathletes, water polo players, dedicated fitness swimmers etc. all are welcome.
Everybody training at the PCYC is required to join the PCYC for the year - which is now $20 per child or $60 per family, this puts us under their insurance scheme for the year and will give us access to equipment and their discounted 30 seater bus.
New members are always welcome.
All committee members and coaching staff possess a Working with Children Card (Blue Card).
Coaches :
James started coaching swimming in New Zealand in the mid 90's taking some of Duncan Laing's squads, at that time Duncan was the New Zealand Coach. At the same time also coaching masters plus a large squad of Tri-Athletes and Surf swimmers. Moving to Australia, James started coaching the Long Tan Legends for 2 years before departing to work in the mines. Upon his return he started as an Assistant Coach to Keenan Wockner at Kirwan Kudas for 2 years and has been Head Coach of Townsville Marlins for the last 6 years. James is currently undertaking his Silver coaching accreditation.
James was awarded Bronze Coach of the Year in 2009 and has been invited to attend the World Championships 2011 in Shanghai.
Peta has Austswim and Swimming Australia credentials and currently holds a Bronze coaching certificate and is currently undertaking a Certificate IV in Training and Assessing.
